Privacy Policy

March 3, 2026

Readout was built with privacy in mind. It runs entirely on your Mac, doesn't require an account, and sends no personal data anywhere. This page explains the details.

Your data never leaves your Mac

Readout reads local files on your Mac (git repos, config files, dependency manifests, Claude Code and Codex artifacts) to build a dashboard. Your code, file paths, repo names, and session content are never uploaded, synced, or sent to us or anyone else.

Readout does make some network requests, all described below: anonymous analytics, update checks, pricing data for cost tracking, AI features you opt into, and skills browsing.

Analytics

To help us improve the app, Readout sends fully anonymous usage signals via TelemetryDeck. These are basic app-level events like app launched, scan completed (repo count, not names), screen visits, and error counts. No project data is included. TelemetryDeck uses double-hashed identifiersYour device ID is hashed twice before being sent, making it impossible to trace back to you or your device., no PII, and is GDPR-compliant. Simply put, we can't identify you, nor do we have any interest in doing so.

Pricing data

Readout fetches public pricing data for AI models to calculate your usage costs. This is a simple data file hosted on our update server. No personal or project data is sent.

AI-assisted features

Readout may offer AI-assisted features, like Readout AssistantA built-in chat that can answer questions about your repos, sessions, and dev environment.. These features require an API key that you provide and are used entirely at your discretion. Readout does not supply, store, or manage API keys on your behalf. Any data sent to an AI provider is governed by that provider's terms and privacy policy.

Skills browsing

Readout can search the skills.sh registry to help you discover and install skills. Search queries are sent to the registry. No personal or project data is included.

Update checks

Readout uses SparkleAn open-source framework used by many Mac apps to deliver automatic updates securely. to check for updates, which sends your app version and macOS version. Nothing else.
